北京——镜头中的奥运之城2006摄影大赛
[English] [中文]
Beijing, a historic capital, an advanced civilization
Beijing, an energetic international metropolis
Beijing, a flourishing Olympic city
Beijing is a product of an advanced civilization, a city with a history of more than 3,000 years, including 853 as a capital. Its invaluable legacy of social and political accomplishments, its art and architectural triumphs testify to its status as an important city in China and in the world in antiquity, a status to which it again aspires. Its collection of World Cultural Heritage Sites, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, the Peking Man Site and the Ming Tombs inspire pride in Beijing residents. But the city’s gardens, its simple hutong and siheyuan residences also provide an insight into the very soul of Beijing.
Life in Beijing, an energetic international metropolis, with its rapidly developing economy, large-scale urban construction and all-round environmental protection, is changing day by day. As the nation’s capital, an international city, a historical cultural city, Beijing is now focused on making itself a pleasant place in which to live and work.
Beijing eagerly looks forward to the 2008 Olympic Games. As a flourishing Olympic city, it has launched its Beijing Olympic emblem and slogan, and it has made great progress with its Olympic Marketing Plan. It has brought forth its loveable mascots, the five Friendlies and is soliciting Olympic theme songs. Beijing is filled with the spirit of Olympic sport. The expressed goal of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, to host “a high-level Olympic Games with distinguishing features,” is more than a promise. It is also a challenge for Beijing residents, and it is a profound guide for socio-economic development in the city. With the 2008 Olympic Games drawing ever nearer, the Olympic Games has entered its Beijing Period, and Beijing has become fully involved in the Olympic Movement.
Whatever your concern with Beijing, its antiquity, its modernity, its Olympic moment, the city is a fount of innumerable sights and scenes worth the moments it takes to stop, focus and capture them for a visual record. So it’s no surprise that people who love Beijing seek every chance to take photos of it. In 2005, the first “Beijing–An Olympic City in View” Photo Contest, sponsored by the Beijing Tourism Administration, inspired thousands of photographers to make contributions to this record. Now comes the second edition of this exciting contest, which we hope will fully display Beijing’s charms as a historic capital, a modern metropolis and an Olympic city, while shedding light on Beijing’s residents’ enthusiasm and preparations for the 29th Olympic Games.
The whole world is invited to participate in the photo contest of “Beijing—An Olympic City in View” (2006). Let the photo shooting begin!

1 Olympic Beijing
Beijing is steadfastly preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games. Olympic competition venues are under construction and on schedule. Beijing residents are studying English and other foreign languages to better assist visitors to the Games and to promote the spirit of the Olympic Games. Sports activities, from non-competitive exercising in new city parks to the highest level of professional activity in dynamic new stadiums, are growing in scope and scale. New sports grounds can easily be found throughout the city’s urban and rural areas. Signs of Olympic activity, its symbols and advertising, its licensed Olympic merchandise, are ubiquitous. These are just some of the activities symbolizing the new Beijing; these are the subjects that will inspire the photo contest’s judges the most.
2 Business Beijing
Beijing is one of the most economically lively cities in China; it offers a highly optimized investment environment with the greatest economic potential in the country. Its CBD, Financial Street, Zhongguancun (China's Silicon Valley) and other development zones…also welcome the scrutiny of meticulous shutterbugs.
