In 2003, Beijing's gross domestic product (GDP) was valued at 366.31 billion yuan, an increase of 10.7 percent from 2002. The economic growth rate was more than 10 percent for the fifth year in a row. Per capita GDP was 31,613 yuan (US$3,819), an increase of 9.2 percent.

Production in the tertiary sector and in manufacturing and agricultural industries increased in value by 10.3 percent, 1.9 percent and 3.3 percent over 2002 figures.
