Foreign-Funded Investment Companies

Investments by transnational corporations continued to increase, with four setting up regional headquarters, investment companies or research and development (R&D) centres in Beijing. There were 133 investment companies set up by transnational corporations in the Chinese capital in 2003. In 2002, Beijing was home to 181 foreign-funded R&D centres. The Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park (ZSTP), Haidian Park of the ZSTP and Yizhuang are fundamental structures forming Beijing's "headquarters economy."
