Shopping Areas

2006/07/26

Wangfujing

Wangfujing Dajie (Street) is a bustling pedestrian shopping mall and a place where old and new blend perfectly. As one of the oldest shopping streets in Beijing, Wangfujing features many Time Honoured Brand stores, most of which are more than 100 years old. World-renown brands, fantastic shops and restaurants, bookstores and an old, refurbished western-styled church epitomize modern Beijing. In the early evening, check out the "snack street"or "eat street" that can be found on the north side of Donghuamen Dajie, east of Wangfujing Dajie.

Xidan Street

The Xidan Commercial Area, north of West Chang'an Avenue, offers a wide range of shopping options. Xidan has four big shopping centres (the Chung-Yo Shopping Centre, Xidan Shopping Centre and Capital Times Plaza) and Beijing's biggest book store, the Beijing Book Mansion (see its excellent imported books section).

Xindanbei Dajie, Xicheng District

Subway: Line One, Xidan Subway Station; Bus: 1, 4, 10, 102, 603, 728, 808

Qianmen-Dashilan Shopping Area

As the first and oldest commercial street in Beijing, the Qianmen-Dashilan shopping area has developed along with the fortunes of Beijing. Many laozihao (Chinese time-honoured brand businesses) are located here where they have welcomed customers for generations. Now the centuries-old shopping area is experiencing renovation and is looking forward to yet another new century.

Subway: Line 2 Qianmen Station; Bus: 2, 5, 9, 20, 44, 726, 820

Fuchengmen-Fuxingmen Area

Just outside the Second Ring Road in western Beijing, there's a multitude of discount markets selling everything from tools to toys. There are some great prices on clothing and small electronics, but haggling is required at every small stall. The biggest and most comprehensive in the area are Wantong, Guanyuan and Tianyi.
