"Meet in Beijing" Arts Festival

The "Meet in Beijing" Cultural Festival is an annual cultural event staged yearly in Beijing since 2000, has become one of China's state-of-the-art festivals showcasing international cultural diversity. The Sixth "Meet in Beijing" Cultural Festival, which opened in April 2006, staged performances by 50 or more artistic troupes from more than 20 countries and regions.

 

Chaoyang Pop Music Festival

Beijing goes pop during the May Day holiday, with a big music event, the Chaoyang Pop Music Festival, to present variety and excitement. The Chaoyang Pop Music Festival, staged in Chaoyang Park, is the largest of its kind in Asia. The event features a lineup of A-list Chinese singers, as well as international bands and dance groups. In 2006, the Third Chaoyang Pop Music Festival featured more than 30 pop singers and bands from home and abroad who performed live on open stages from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the holiday. Audiences at the previous festivals have been as large as  300,000.

 

Dashanzi International Art Festival (DIAF)

Avant-garde art exhibitions, performances and video displays are featured by both Chinese and foreign artists in Dashanzi, Beijing's most popular art area. The month-long DIAF is a large scale event held once a year in the spring. It plays an active role in the enhancement of Beijing as a centre for contemporary culture, reflecting its art to a global audience.

Beijing International Cultural and Tourism Festival

Co-organized by Beijing Municipal Government and Beijing Tourism Administration, Beijing International Cultural and Tourism Festival was initiated in 1998. The festival is organised to promote the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and to promote greater understanding between people in China and other countries and regions in the world. A carnival parade, with folk artists from home and abroad participating, artistic performances and photo exhibitions are staged.

 

Beijing 2008 Olympic Cultural Festival

Since the first Olympic Cultural Festival kicked off at the China Millennium Monument in Beijing on September 21, 2003, the cultural gala is held annually to mark the anniversary of Beijing's successful bid for the 2008 Games and help promote the Olympic movement in the city. It is a platform for Beijing to showcase its preparation for the Olympic Games, such as unveiling its Olympic slogan and Olympic mascots. Various events including concerts, photo exhibitions, dance performances and Olympic forums take place.

 

2006 The Year of Italy in China

The Year of Italy in China, a cultural gala co-organized by China and Italy, was designed to provide a window allowing the people of the two countries to experience a bit of the lives and thoughts of the other in these modern times, thus promoting bilateral ties and mutual understanding between the peoples. Activities, such as exhibitions, dance performances, music and arts events, enrich the lives of the Italian and Chinese people.

 

2006 The Year of Russia in China

The curtain on the Year of Russia in China was raised in March  2006. Visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Hu Jintao jointly inaugurated the opening ceremony. The Year of Russia in China and the Year of China in Russia, which will be held in 2007, are part of the two countries?efforts to strengthen their strategic partnership. Russian artists bring a variety of shows to China, ranging from ballet, drama and symphony, to folk songs and dances. Events concerning culture, economics and education are also presented.
