Upon arrival, foreign tourists to China must fill in a Passenger Luggage Declaration at customs and accept a customer's check. Personal belongings will be admitted free of duty, but gifts for relatives or friends in China, or articles carried on their behalf, must be declared. Visitors may bring in an unlimited amount of foreign currency, Chinese Renminbi (RMB) traveler's cheques, and their unspent portion maybe taken out. While traveling domestically, baggage limits are 20 kgs on both planes and trains. Some tourists believe China lacks standard daily products and food items. In reality, many high-quality daily necessities and food items are available in most large malls, department stores and hotels in China's major cities. A lot of imported goods from foreign countries are also available. Therefore, it is not necessary to overload your luggage with common daily articles and food items. Import and Export AllowancesCigarettes, Cigars, Tobacco Products (Duty Free Allowance)Import: 400 cigarettes - staying less than 6 months; 600 cigarettes - staying more than 6 months Export: 4 cartons tobacco products Alcoholic Beverages (Duty Free Allowance)Import: 2 bottles - not exceeding 0.75 l - staying less than 6 months; 4 bottles - not exceeding 0.75 l - staying more than 6 months Chinese Herbs & Patent MedicinesExport: Max. 300 yuan per person to abroad Max. 150 yuan per person to Hong Kong, Macau Exceeding the limit on musk and other Chinese herbs and medicines is prohibited. Gifts & Misc Items (Duty Free Allowance)Import: Reasonable quantity of perfume for personal use. Gold, Silver and OrnamentsImport: Amount not exceeding 50 grams. Export: Exporting any of these purchased items (including handicrafts of inlaid gold or silverware) only allowed with special invoices issued by the PRC. Cultural RelicsExport: Should be sent to cultural administrative departments for verification first and issued with an invoice permit or export license. Electronic AppliancesImport: One piece of the following items is allowed: Camera, Portable tape-recorder, Portable cinecamera, Portable video-camera, Portable computer. Prohibited ArticlesImport: Arms, imitation arms, ammunition, explosives of all kinds Counterfeit currencies/negotiable securities Printed matter, films, photos, gramophone records, cinematographic films, loaded recording tapes/video-tapes, CDs (video & audio), storage media computers, articles which are detrimental to the political, economic, cultural and moral interests of China Deadly poisons of all kinds. Opium, morphine, heroin, marijuana, other addiction inducing drugs and psychedelics. Animals, plants, or products made of/or infected with disease. Export: Same as prohibited articles for import Manuscripts, printed matter, films, photos, gramophone records, cinema films, loaded recording tapes/video tapes, CDs (video & audio), storage media for computers and other articles which involve state secrets. Valuable cultural relics and other relics prohibited for export. Endangered or rare animals and plants (including their specimen, seed, reproduction material).
