Fengshui

2004/06/23

Beijing's culture is today a complex reflection of China's history and its position in a rapidly changing world. Full of contradictions and spectacular exclamations, it's a city partially frozen in time as well as light-years ahead. As culture is everything, not just the art and grandiosity of its heyday, there is much to see, and enjoy.

Fengshui

In Chinese feng means the wind while shui means water.

Fengshui is the ancient Chinese system of arranging objects in an environment to maximize internal harmony, and the happiness of the people therein. It is not a religion, although some do consider it part of their religious practice. It is sometimes used to detect auspicious environments in the modern world, to find good building sites, to determine floor-plans of houses or simply a room layout.

The most important aspect of fengshui is 'qi,' the life force that flows in and around everything, binding it. Qi is the energy that must be able to flow well to have a positive environment, as in good fengshui.
