Preparations of transportation, security, boarding, food and drinks, medical care services is in full swing; good service support will be provided for the Olympic Games.

Work in this section will be a key indicator of the operational level of the Beijing Games, but it is a very complicated task. Beijing has established an educational system concerning transportation and we are constructing a model for Olympic transportation. The Primary Strategic Security Plan for the Beijing Olympic Games and the Security Risk Evaluation Plan of the Beijing Olympic Games have been completed.

BOCOG signed agreements with 108 hotels to provide accommodations at Games time, which will basically meet the needs of hosting the Olympic Games. In June 2005, the Beijing Hotel and Grand Hotel Beijing were chosen as headquarters hotels for the Olympic Family at Games time. BOCOG chose ten more hotels to serve as headquarters for the national and regional Olympic committees from outside China.

In October 2005, the Action Guidelines of the 2008 Olympic Games Food Security Plan were announced and implemented. With the support of the Ministry of Health and the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, 21 hospitals were approved as dedicated hospitals and one of them is a dedicated anti-doping centre for the Beijing Olympic Games.

Next BOCOG will focus on delineating the needs for various services, deepen and optimize the services planning. The plan for each task should fully describe a service's purpose and function and what the service level to be provided should be so that more comfortable and more congenial conditions of competition and living will be provided for the athletes and all participants. BOCOG will strive for high level services concerning accommodations, locations of religious venues, food and beverages, and language assistance, taking into consideration the nationalities, religious beliefs, and cultural backgrounds of those concerned. Beijing will make full use of social resources, train services staff and volunteers, including multilingual staff, to serve Olympic participants in their native tongues so they can better experience the humanistic solicitude of the Chinese people at the Beijing Olympic Games.

A very large amount of work has been done to construct a technology system, a financial management programme and an intellectual-property protection plan for the 2008 Olympic Games. These matters are entering the implementation stage.

As preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games take shape, Beijing will present the world with one surprise after another.
