Media Services
2006/09/12
On November 1, 2004, BOCOG and the Beijing Municipal
Government jointly established the Beijing Olympic Media Centre
to better inform the media, the people and the people of the
Olympic Family and the world about Beijing's preparations for
the 2008 Games. Founded on May 31, 2005, the Beijing Olympic
Broadcasting Company (BOB), Limited, is a Sino-foreign joint
venture funded by BOCOG and the Olympic Broadcasting Services
(OBS). It will provide broadcasting services for the Beijing
2008 Olympic and Paralympics Games. On September 21, 2005, a
memorandum was signed between BOB and the China Publishing
Group authorizing eight radio and television broadcasting
companies to be responsible for providing international signals
for the televised broadcasting of seven events of the Beijing
2008 Olympic Games. These were: China Central Television
Station (CCTV), Beijing Television Station (BTV), Guangzhou TV
Station, Radio and the Television Station of Jiangsu Province,
Liaoning Television Station, Shanghai Media Group, Tianjin
Television Station and the Zhejiang Television Station. They
will broadcast events such as table tennis, badminton, the
modern pentathlon, football, basketball, volleyball and tennis.
These stations, confirmed by BOB, will form the first
television broadcasting group for the Beijing Olympic Games.
This will be the first time for the Chinese media to be
involved in Olympic broadcasting on a large scale, an important
milestone in the history of China's radio and television
development. The first International Broadcasters Conference
was successfully held with the attendees inspecting Beijing
Olympic venues and hearing reports from relevant departments of
BOCOG. A speech made by Liu Qi, President of BOCOG, promised
conferees good media organization and services for the Olympic
Games and won a favourable response from broadcasters from
around the world.
