Competition Venues

2006/09/11

Thirty-seven competition venues and 63 training venues will be needed for the Beijing Olympic Games. Of the 37 venues; 31 will be located in Beijing. The rest will be located in Qingdao (for the 29th Olympic Sailing Regatta), in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (for equestrian events) and in Tianjin, Shanghai, Shenyang, and Qinhuangdao (football preliminaries).

In Beijing, 11 venues are new, 11 are existing ones that will have to be renovated, and the other nine will be overlays (temporary buildings). By the end of April 2006, construction of the 20 out 31 venues in Beijing and five auxiliary facilities had already begun. In the same year, construction of the main structures of most new venues and other auxiliary facilities such as the Olympic Village will be undertaken. All Olympic competition venues will be completed by the end of 2007 to meet the requirements of the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympics.
