Belgian EU Pavilion
2009/11/13
The pavilion will be built around the structure of a “Brain Cell,” a dominant conceptual image, since brains have stimulated artistic richness, scientific, cultural and intellectual achievements of Belgium and Europe.
The exterior of the pavilion will speak of the pragmatism and discretion typical of Belgium. A big roof structure will offer a communal shelter, functioning as a public space open to the outside. To adapt to Shanghai’s warm and moist climate, the facade will be built with transparent glass materials, and three exterior walls, mainly closed, will be made of metal plates. Building materials can easily be recycled.
Opening to the public in May 2010, the pavilion will contain exposition halls of Europe, Belgium and other European countries, and will feature a restaurant, bar and a VIP centre and other entertainment facilities.
