Nation to Restrict Building of Residential Villas

The Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) will restrict land available for use by residential housing project developments that use a lot of space but have low population densities, and it will ban land supplies to specific villas, an official of the ministry said in a China Daily report on December 2.

Su Kexin, vice-director of MLR's Land Utilization and Management Department, said that real estate developers may not expect to earn fat profits from building villas any more.

MLR cannot let a minority of people occupy so much land, he said.

Restricting land supplied to residential housing projects that use a lot of space but with low population densities, and banning land supplies to specific villas is one of MLRs ten key works at present, Su said.

The MLR will improve industrial land use and real estate market access systems and it will draw up a catalogue of projects for which land supplies are either restricted or banned.
