“Quiet Communities” For Beijingers
2005/06/13
Beijing is promoting quieter communities.
In the initiative, the first of its kind, all quiet
communities must meet standards keeping noise levels lower than
55 decibels during the daytime, and 45 decibels at night, which
is about as loud as people talking.
Du Shaozhong, vice-director of the Beijing Environmental
Protection Bureau, said noise pollution in residential
communities was a big problem in 2004.
By grouping "quiet communities," residents can voluntarily
protect the living environment in their neighbourhoods, and
thus improve their living quality.
