The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and the IOC Coordination Commission for the Beijing Olympic Games last week reached a broad consensus on preparatory work for the Beijing Olympics, BOCOG President Liu Qi said.

Liu, who also serves as secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, made the remark during a meeting with IOC President Jacque Rogge in Beijing on June 5, 2005. The meeting took place after the conclusion of the fourth plenary session of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Liu extended his thanks to the IOC President for the International Olympic Committee's consistent support of Beijing's Olympic preparations.

Rogge said he was happy to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Volunteer Programme in Beijing. He also endorsed the progress of the city's Olympic preparations and reaffirmed his confidence in Beijing's ability to stage a "high-level Olympics with distinguishing features."

BOCOG Executive Vice-Presidents Liu Jingmin, Wang Wei and Yu Zaiqing attended the meeting. Liu Jingmin also serves as a deputy mayor of Beijing.
