Beijing Inaugurates Olympic Press Centre

2004/11/15

A press centre for the 2008 Olympic Games was opened in Beijing on November 8 to meet an increasing demand for information about the city's preparatory work.

The press centre, located at the Huabei Hotel in northern Beijing, will serve as a fixed place for the city and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics (BOCOG) to provide media services, hold press conferences, conduct exchanges and host other communications and exhibition activities.

"To provide high-standard media services is an important part of BOCOG's work," said BOCOG Vice-President Jiang Xiaoyu.

"The media plays an important role in the success of any Olympics," he said.

Jiang invited the world's journalists to cover Beijing's Olympic preparations and China's economic development.

Kevan Gosper, vice-president of the IOC's Coordination Commission for the 2008 Olympics, also attended the opening ceremony.
