General Electric Partners with Beijing 20082004/06/15
Towards 2008 is compiled by Simon Cousins The General Electric company signed a partnership agreement with the Beijing Organising Committee for the XXIX Olympic Games (BOCOG) on May 26th. Officials from GE, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and BOCOG signed the deal in Beijing, and announced GEs eight-year Worldwide Olympic Sponsorship beginning January1, 2005. GE also became a Sponsor of the Chinese Olympic Committee. As a Worldwide Partner of the Olympic Games, GE will have the opportunity to provide a wide range of products and services for the games of the XXIX Olympiad from August 8-24, 2008. Industry observers said GE's participation is expected to include energy power generation and distribution systems, security equipment and systems, water treatment facilities and services, portable structures, and lighting fixtures and systems. At the signing ceremony, Jeff Immelt, chairman and CEO of GE, said, "GE shares the competitive spirit and global unity that the Olympic Games exemplify. We are proud to be a Worldwide Olympic Partner, and we are especially excited to be able to help BOCOG achieve its goals of hosting a green and high-tech Olympic Games. GE has made significant investments in China, and we are committed to leveraging our technology and innovation to prepare Beijing for the best games ever." Yuan Weimin, executive president of BOCOG, said, "With this ceremony, the relationship between the IOC, BOCOG and GE will become closer and deeper. BOCOG looks forward to strengthening its relationship with GE as Beijing develops its infrastructure and prepares for the Olympic Games." Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the Coordination Commission for the Beijing Olympic Games, added,"GE is a global leader, a highly successful corporation but one committed to being a good corporate citizen and one committed to the ideals and values of the Olympic movement." |
