Bidding for National Tennis and Hockey Stadiums Opens2004/06/15
Beijing is soliciting public bids for the country's new National Tennis Center and National Hockey Stadium. Yang Jun, deputy director of the Construction Management Committee for the project, told a press conference on May 11 that global bidding has begun. "Pre-qualification and EOI (expression of interest) documents were issued on April 26, said Yang. We will issue official bidding documents in mid-June, and the bidding process is expected to close in mid-September," he added. A 100,000 square-meter tennis center and 120,000 square-meter hockey stadium will be part of an 422,000 square meter complex located in Beijings main Olympic Green. The tennis centre will include 10 competition courts and six practice courts. The remainder of the complex will include support facilities. According to Yang, "market-based financing" will be used in the project, that is, the project will be operated as a venture financed by non-governmental organizations (NGOs). "The government may arrange land replacements, financial subsidies, capital inputs, and concessions not longer than 30 years, allowing the NGOs a reasonable rate of return," he said. |
