Tian’anmen Square

The Square is at its best in the morning and the flag raising ceremony at dawn is worth getting up for. For a full morning, next visit Chairman Mao's Mausoleum and then the China National Museum, which opens at 9am.

Forbidden City

Also known as the Palace Museum, the former home of Imperial China for 500 years this really is a city with 720,000 sq m, 800 buildings and 9,000 rooms. A must-see!

Summer Palace

A former royal park and site of temples, lakes and walkways, it promises a relaxing time.

Temple of Heaven

A wonderful example of Ming architecture in a walled 267-hectare park. Visit the Echo Wall, the Round Altar and the Imperial Vault of Heaven.

The Great Wall

Reputed to have been begun between 770-476 BC, the wall has constantly been rebuilt ever since. Wall sites of particular interest are: Simatai, Juyongguan and Badaling.
