China’s largest fuel depot opens in Guangdong

China National Petroleum Corporation's Zhanjiang Port fuel
depot, with a storage capacity of 945,000 cubic metres, has
started first phase operation in south China's Guangdong
Province. Construction of the project was
divided into two phases. The first phase, which started in 2002
and was completed at the end of March this year, covers 38
hectares and cost 520 million (US$62 million). The depot has 15
fuel tanks.
In the second phase, which is to start later this year,
three fuel tanks each with a storage capacity of 100,000 cubic
metres will be built. Upon completion
of the whole project, the depot in will be capable of storing
1.24 million cubic metres of fuel. It is believed this will
make it the largest of its kind in China.
