IOC Commission Chairman Praises Venue Construction
2004/06/24
During his inspection tour last month, the chairman of the IOCs peak Coordination Commission praised the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) for perfect work to date.
"We're extremely pleased to see how fast the work has been advanced," Hein Verbruggen told senior BOCOG officials. We re very sure that, as it has been promised by BOCOG, the work will be finished by the end of 2006, which is an absolute record. I dont think there s ever been a Games being ready with their construction so early, he went on to say.
When asked if he would offer Beijing some suggestions on the venue construction program, he said:" I would be ashamed to make any suggestion because everything is perfect so far."
Beijing s authorities have undertaken to complete all construction of the Olympic and Paralympic sporting facilities at least a year ahead of time so that large-scale tests can be done in 2007.
