Beijing 2008 Investment to Touch $33.6 Billion

Investment directly related to the 2008 Games is expected to reach 280 billion yuan (US$33.6 billion), Lu Yingchuan, spokesman for the Beijing Development and Reform Commission, told the Interfax news agency.
The city official disclosed that the investment focus will move from the city of Beijing towards the suburbs. Eighty percent of the municipal governments net investment is spent on the city centre. However, the Commission plans to invest 4.6B (US$552M) in suburban Beijing in calendar 2004. (See Cover Story)
