2004/03/15
To raise farmer incomes and promote exports, the Chinese
government has launched a six-year campaign to develop the
agricultural produce processing industry, according to
Xinhuanet.
The campaign would help create 1 million jobs a year and
increase the per capita income of Chinese farmers by 20 yuan a
year, said Liu Jian, vice-minister of agriculture, on March
1.
The ministry will invest in farm produce processing,
packaging and storage standards. Over the last 10 years, the
countrys farm produce processing industry has grown at a rate
of 8.6 percent annually. Output reached 3.1 trillion yuan
(US$0.37 tillion) last year.
