Presentation Night Attracts Parents to British School

2004/03/15

More than 200 parents and interested parties attended a presentation night for the first British school in Beijing which opens its doors to nursery children on March 29.

The British School will open as a full primary school (ages 3-11) in August of this year and develop into a secondary school (from 11 years upwards) from August 2005.

British School of Beijing headmaster Gilbard Honey-Jones pledged to deliver a high-quality education while not forgetting the personal development of every child.

The already-assembled teaching team are all native English speakers, qualified and with recent experience of the British National Curriculum.

Keynote speaker Michael OSullivan, director of the British Council in China, spoke about the virtues and strengths of a British education. Roger Fry, chairman of the British School and also the Council of British International Schools in the European Community (COBISEC) spoke of his vision for the school. Dr Gary Dirks, General Manager for BP in China (also chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce) also spoke briefly.
