Good People to Do Good Work in China

2008/02/01

When Tauck World Discovery was presented with Preserve America Presidential Awards in the White House for their guest-volunteer programme in the Yellowstone National Park, President George Bush commented, “By their good work, the good people at Tauck are inspiring America to lend a hand in preservation.”

Now, with China drawing the world’s attention for the 2008 Olympic Games, “the good people” of Tauck want to lend a hand in China too.

With over 50 awards and honours, Tauck has been a global leader in upscale, escorted land, cruise, river boat and family journeys since 1926, offering more than 90 unique, engaging travel experiences worldwide. After Beijing and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding that will allow Chinese travel agencies to market packaged leisure tours to America, and enable American tourist destinations to market directly to the Chinese public at a meeting of the US–China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade in December 2007, Tauck is the first America-based travel agency which quickly responded. They are currently looking for partners in China and planning to open two travel lines to Tibet and South China within the year.

China was No. 1 on Lonely Planet's annual list of hot destinations for 2007, and China also placed first for the country representing the best value for the dollar in a survey of members of the US Tour Operators Association,” explained Robin Tauck, CEO of the company. “We’re confident that China will become our destination with the quickest growth.”

Tauck journeys reveal the essence of each destination through first-hand experience, "insider" access, and exploration of the area's history, culture, cuisine and more; in order to reach this principle, Tauck launched the “World of Giving” programme. “Destination Grants” are part of the programme: exciting, collaborative grants that fund environmental protection, cultural integrity and understanding and historical preservation in a wide array of locales where Tauck World Discovery brings hundreds or thousands of guests.

Tauck employees, families and friends give generously of their time, including several Tauck volunteer days and efforts at these and other fine organizations. Each year Tauck World of Giving gives 20–25 Connecticut based grants. Thousands of grants have been provided over the decades. “Our desire is to enhance the continued appreciation of the resource for the public and future generations to come,” introduced Robin Tauck.

Tauck is now negotiating to see what they can do to better help preserve the cultural relics of this historic country, for example, the Great Wall. “We're not only bringing thousands of travellers here to see the great views,” emphasized Robin Tauck, “We’re bringing them here to communicate with the people here, get to know the great culture of the country. When they leave, make sure we’ve made no harm to the environment and even improve things and make a difference.”
