Reward Yourself in the New Year Ski Changchun

2007/11/01

Join the Sixth Vasaloppet China on January 2, 2008, at the Moon Lake National Park in Changchun, Northeast China, to enjoy winter sports like skiing and so much more!

A trip to the snowy wonderlands of Moon Lake National Park and skiing in the Sixth Vasaloppet China is something beyond the ordinary ski experience. In addition to first class ski tracks and various competitions up to 50 kilometres (km) in length, the Sixth Vasaloppet China includes exciting cultural activities, culinary experiences, a grand New Year and birthday celebrations, all accented with beautiful wintry, snowy artistry.

Vasaloppet of Sweden has a history of more than 80 years as the largest ski competition in the world, attracting 45,000 participants annually. Focusing on participation and experience, it is as much promoting a lifestyle as it is promoting a sport. It’s fun, healthy and environmentally friendly event held in Sweden, China, Japan and in the United States.

Vasaloppet China is growing rapidly from about 700 participants in its first year in 2003 to about 11,400 in 2007. The surroundings in the competition area were incredible, with hundreds of beautiful snow sculptures.

About 750 skiers from 15 countries participated in the first event at Moon Lake National Park. The Second Vasaloppet China was larger in scope and was a major event of the Changchun Moon Lake Park Ice & Snow Festival, an annual two-month long activity presenting stunning snow artistry and sculptures, winter activities and culture performances. As many as 2,200 skiers from around the world enjoyed two days of great skiing and exciting racing in the park’s beautiful winter landscape.

The Third Vasaloppet China was held January 2—4, 2005, marking several historical milestones as the first FIS Asia Pacific Marathon Cup (together with races in Japan and Russia). Its 50 km race, held on January 2, was China’s first ever FIS Point ski marathon. With main races of 50, 25, 14 and 7 km and joined with the Stora Enso Children’s Vasa and several short-track student races, some 7,400 skiers from 23 countries, ages 5ñ86 took part in this unique Cross County ski celebration.

During the Fourth Vasaloppet China, held over five days in January 2006, 11,400 skiers took part in the various ski activities including studentís races, a children’s Vasa and ski races.

The Fifth Vassaloppet China was held in January 2007, also in the Moon Lake National Park. There were more than 16,000 participants, including 600 foreign skiers from 10 European and American countries, joined by more than 10,000 skiers from China.

Changchun, capital of Jilin Province in Northeast China, is a city of seven million. Founded during the Qing Dynasty (1644ñ1911), it is quite pleasantly known as The Spring City beyond the Great Wall. With numerous scenic spots and parks, it has gained fame in recent years for winter activities and snow artistry. The Moon Lake Ice & Snow Festival offers magnificent artistry offering a unique and picturesque backdrop to Vasaloppet China.
