Beijing City International Students Send Olympic Message to the World
2007/07/31
Beijing City International School is one of two international schools worldwide to be given the title of Model Education Olympic School by the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee. Students at model schools are asked to integrate Olympic education into their existing programmes, model Olympic values and invite children from all over the world to participate in the lead up to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
As part of their work, BCIS students have created a network of 35 schools across all continents by sending out Fuwa, including Fu Niu Lele (the fluffy mascot of the Paralympics) to visit students and share the Olympic message. Participants include schools in Antarctica, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Vietnam, Egypt, Wales, South Korea, the United States, New Zealand, Chile, the Philippines, Ethiopia and Venezuela. One Fuwa has met the Queen of England while another even found its way to The Australian Antarctic Territories at Macquarie Island.
More than 25 schools are now participating and sending back stories and pictures of our Fuwa ambassadors spreading the Olympic message. Beijing City International School students have formed a committee which manages the project. Its members are fast becoming real experts on all things Olympic. They have travelled with their own Fuwa mascots to points of interests in Beijing and are planning to visit many of the Olympic venues over the coming months. They maintain an Olympic museum that displays their own, and other photos and stories that have flooded in from around the globe. The group has plans to extend the project over the coming year and include competitions, quizzes and perhaps even visits to Beijing from project participants through out the world.
The Network is hosted on the BCIS Web site at: www.bcis.cn/Fuwa/fuwa6/olympic.htm. Here you can learn more about the Fuwa, the Olympics, see photos sent by other participating schools and join in yourself by e-mailing the Fuwa your questions about the Olympic Games.
