Chic Club: Fabulous Music is the Soul
2007/05/22
When I entered the recently reopened Chic Club at 11 p.m. one evening, my mind was burdened with the words of a friend who had informed me that “the feeling's gone.” But that may say more about my friend than the club.
I found it hadn’t changed much. Finding seats next to the bar, another friend and I ordered whiskey and a set of dice: a prelude to an expectation. Soon the music penetrated my soul and I found my body responding to it. We tossed the dice and sipped the whisky mixed with iced tea—a combination I find amenable. Gradually, we were drawn into the club’s welcoming ambience. Glass by glass the drinks flowed, accompanied by the rattle of the dice, as the music built to new heights. When two spicy girls began dancing on the bar counter, everyone joined in on the dance floor. The DJ’s music flowed smoothly awakening a range of emotions. We invited other guys to join us in forming a circle in which one person was the centre of attention for one minute’s show time. Everyone cheered the dancers in the middle, with emotions running high on and off the dance floor. Despite our sweat and thirst, nobody wanted to stop, and when we did, we found we’d been away from our table for so long that our orphaned drinks had been cleared away. We laughed at our folly, ordered new drinks, had a break, and then rushed onto the floor again.
For a club, fabulous music, not its decorations, draws a party animal’s attention. I love the new Chic Club because of its DJ. Fabulous music creates an enchanting evening that passes into an amazing night.
