VICS: Return of the Superb Club

2007/05/22

On the evening of May 11, a new Vics Club was born, taking Beijing by storm.

Vics used to be neglected by most passers-by at night because of its unremarkable appearance. But now you'll never miss it. The club has two entrances: one of them is a white arch, which evokes Sydney Theatre. In front of the arch stands a statue of an Egyptian pharaoh and on the right a twisting bridge. Crossing the bridge, you will enter into a big glass shade that is a special entry for guests.

On its opening day, Vics attracted many of Beijing's fashionable personalities. Women decked in the latest fashions in clothes, styles and makeup crowded in. Can you imagine the scene? Hundreds of people enjoyed dessert, champagne and wine in the buffet zone, while dozens of others anxiously waited outside the zone to enter. It was a surprising turn of events for Vics’ reopening party that it attracted so many fashionable clubbers.

Because of the crowds, I gave up on entering Vics that day, but two days later I went to sample its charms. The music was still dominated by R&B and hip-hop as before, and the clientele was largely foreigners. After midnight, it became a party of different nationalities, with everyone immersed an exciting, sexy atmosphere. In addition to the new decorations, the club's vast blue-velour sofas and its red-glass walls plated with cobblestones in the washroom were also quite attractive.

Vics is a fantastic club, but there are others in the Gongti area such as Mix, Angel Club, Cargo Club, Babyface and more, and Vics actually did little more than enlarge its space. Its music style is nearly the same as Mix’s so it’s hard to say which will stand out, winning the fickle hearts of clubbers in this charming city.
