Tianqiao Area to be the Centre of Folk-custom Culture Performance

2007/04/03

A series of activities will be held in the Tianqiao Area in Xuanwu District in 2007 to rebuild Tianqiao and make it a centre for folk-custom cultural performances.

Tianqiao has been listed as a performance industrial park in the district’s layout of its Xuannan Culture Park.

Under the layout, Tianqiao would be divided into six sections, including a performance, cultural tourist products, traditional culture showcase, entertainment, performance management, performance and art extension sections. The activities of the sections would be coordinated to make Tianqiao a developing focus of Xuanwu District.

Xuanwu District will renovate the theatres and teahouses in the area, improve traffic and road conditions and upgrade buildings that represent the architectural style of the Republican period of China. It will create space for cultural creative and cultural leisure industries. Complementary service facilities such as bars and tearooms will also be built.

Tianqiao has many well-known performance locations, such as the Tianqiaole Teahouse, specializing in dramas and folk programmes; the Wansheng Theatre, with a tradition of acrobatics and sideshows; and the Tianqiao Theatre, a modern theatre that can hold large performances and cultural activities. In 2007, the Xuanwu District Government will adopt modern management and advanced techniques in its operation of these theatres, along with exterior and interior facility renovations, to assemble a first-class centre for dramas, acrobatics, circus and fashion shows.
