Film Association's Top Ten Flicks For 20062007/03/05
Film Association’s Top Ten Flicks For 2006 Only one high profile film appeared on the China Film Association’s (CFA) list of the top ten movies for 2006, released during its annual conference that concluded in Beijing on February 2. A Battle of Wits is the only high-profile film on the association’s list. The other top ten films are Still Life, Crazy Stone, Courthouse on Horseback, The Knot, The Tokyo Trial, The Forest Ranger, You and Me, My Long March and The Silent Holy Stones. Domestic films accounted for 60 percent of the revenue generated at the Chinese box office in 2006. The biggest profits were reported by high-profile, big-budget film producers. But commercial success did not stop critics from castigating some of the blockbusters for offering more style than substance. Tsinghua University professor Yin Hong said big-budget Chinese films have lost their cultural value for the mainstream audience, as violence, blood and incest filled the scenes of The Banquet and Curse of the Golden Flower. |
