Designs for Springtime

2007/01/08

China Fashion Week Collection Spring/Summer 2007 was a big hit in Beijing, with good reviews noted in the fashion press around the world.

The November 15–22, 2006, fashion extravaganza was staged at the Beijing Hotel, China World Hotel and Chaoyang Park.

With 69 events, including 40 fashion shows featuring designs from China, France, Italy, Japan and Russia, 11 press conferences, seven fashion contests, an exhibition, three lectures, two designer conferences, a fashion forum and two awards ceremonies, the 10th anniversary of China Fashion Week garnered a great deal of attention at home and abroad as Beijing worked to earn its place among the fashion elite.

The shows, held annually until 2003, but which are now held twice yearly in March and November, unveiled more than

3,000 fashion products to the public, covering areas of haute couture, street wear, wedding gowns, undergarments, sportswear and cosmetics.

During the past decade, there have been 310 fashion shows, 34 professional contests and nine awards ceremonies. Though not as well-recognized as the New York, London, Paris and Milan fashion weeks, the so-called Big Four, Chinese designers through China Fashion Week are striving to keep pace and improve in the fashion industry, while respecting China’s cultural traditions. Black and white are 2007 spring/summer dominant garment colours in Big Four shows and so they are in China, as with the show’s focus on natural Chinese hair colours.
