Fu Niu Lele, 2008 Paralympic Games Mascot Unveiled

2006/11/30

Fu Niu Lele, the official mascot of the   Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, was unveiled on September 6 during a ceremony at the Badaling Section of the Great Wall, marking the two-year countdown to the opening of the Beijing Paralympic Games.

Modelled after a lovely young cow, Fu Niu Lele will serve as an image ambassador of friendship offered by China to the Paralympic Games to be held on September 6–17, 2008. In Chinese, “Fu” means “good luck”, “Niu” means “ox” symbolizing hard work and responsibility, and “Lele” means “happy.” Hence, the mascot integrates the fine Chinese tradition of “striving to become stronger while carrying great responsibilities” with the theme slogan of the Beijing Paralympic Games––“One World One Dream.” It also expresses the best wishes of the Chinese people to people with disabilities in all parts of the world for happiness, peace and good luck.
