German Embassy Cup

Fast and intense action in celebration of the 2006 World Cup of football in Germany took place on June 10 as 24 teams vied for the German Embassy Cup at Chaoyang Park in eastern Beijing.

A youthful team from the tabloid Titan Sports of Beijing ruled the day defeating the CCTV 2 Youth Sports football team 1-0 in an exciting close to a fast-paced day of five-on-a-side football. The Beijing Foreign Languages Middle School finished third in a field that included teams from the German Embassy to China, the German School Beijing, Deutsche Telekom, Balda, Obermeyer, GMP, Schenker, DEG, DaimlerChrysler, Detecon, GEA Energietechnik, SOS-International Clinic, the German Centre, Club Football, People's Daily, Beijing Youth Daily, Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, China Radio International, China's Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

GMP was cited as the team with the "most supportive fans."

The German Ambassador to China, Dr. Volker Stanzel, viewed the games and handed out awards and prizes to the winners.
