Beijingers Get English Corner near Lido Hotel

An English Corner in Lido Park, opposite the Lido Hotel,
began operation on May 31, the 800th day prior to the opening
of the 2008 Olympic Games (August 8, 2008). From 2-4 p.m. every
Saturday, everyone is welcome to participate in the English
Corner's activities. Foreign teachers will instruct courses.
Oral language speaking practice will follow among participants.
In addition to English, 100 simple sentences from the Korean,
Japanese, French, German and Spanish languages will also be
taught at the English Corner. For more information, please see:

Organizing Committee and The Foreign Affairs Office of the
Beijing Municipal Government, the English Corner aims to
provide a platform for locals to improve their oral English
skills. It is co-organized by the Beijing Speaks Foreign
Languages Programme Organizing Committee Office, CTS Resort
Investment & Development Company, Limited, The First
newspaper, the Beijing Modern English Language Training
Company, Limited, and the Beijing Foreign Cultural Exchanges
Center.
During its first session on June 3, more than 50 locals
joined in, most of whom lived around Lido Park. Jonathan from
the Beijing Modern English Language Training Company, Limited
taught the regularly scheduled "1,000 Sentences of English to
Welcome the Olympics" class.
