Olympic Torch Design Campaign Ends

A three-month solicitation campaign for design proposals for
the Olympic torch of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games ended with
lots of contributions submitted, the organizers announced on
March 13. A large number of design proposals came from all over
China and other countries such as the United States of America,
France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Indonesia and Iran,
according to the Culture and Ceremonies Department of the
Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad
(BOCOG). The department said a jury will be set up to
select three works for final appraisal by the executive board
of the International Olympic Committee. The jury will pare the
list to 10 designs from which three of the best will be chosen
by April 18. The creators must make three-dimensional models on
the basis of their plan drawings and provide a description of
the proposed torch's materials and structural content.
