Olympic Torch Design Campaign Ends

2006/04/01

A three-month solicitation campaign for design proposals for the Olympic torch of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games ended with lots of contributions submitted, the organizers announced on March 13. A large number of design proposals came from all over China and other countries such as the United States of America, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Indonesia and Iran, according to the Culture and Ceremonies Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG). The department said a jury will be set up to select three works for final appraisal by the executive board of the International Olympic Committee. The jury will pare the list to 10 designs from which three of the best will be chosen by April 18. The creators must make three-dimensional models on the basis of their plan drawings and provide a description of the proposed torch's materials and structural content.
