Lucky Street for Lucky Diners
2006/01/01
Lucky Street, a new food street in the Lufthansa area, began
operations just before Christmas offering the posh residents of
this community an attractive dining alternative.
The street, next to the west wing of the Century Theatre, is
lined with four-storey independent buildings. Each building has
three storeys above ground. Twenty-two catering services are
based on the street, offering Sichuan, Hong Kong, Macao,
Japanese, Korean, Thai, German, French, Australian, and
tropical islands fare as well as fusion cuisine. The 22
eateries include two galleries which serve as cafés and
teahouses.
Beijing's top bar, Nashville, also established its second
outlet here. You can enjoy all the delicious food the old
Nashville provided and a wider range of alcoholic
beverages.
North of Lucky Street there are newly constructed foreign
embassies; so the street has oriented itself to serving both
Chinese and overseas diners in a small English town-like
environment. Although the signals and menus are written in
Chinese, the waiters and waitresses there are fluent masters of
English.
Twelve out of the 22 restaurants were opened to the public in
December and the remaining will open this month.
