China Fashion Week Hit Beijing
2005/12/01
Beijing took another big step in its quest to become a full-fledged member of the world of high fashion during China Fashion Week 2006 (spring and summer collections) held November 16-22 in Beijing.
Held over for seven days, Fashion Week ended after nearly 30 catwalk shows, presentations by 20 reputable designers from China and overseas, one forum, five design contests and two annual contests for the 2005 Best Designer and Model.
In addition to conventional shows, 2006 Fashion Week incorporated new elements, such as a lingerie show and a cosmetic-trends collection. The highlight of this week was the fashion show presented by female designer and founder of the Tangy brand, Liang Zi.
Liang was a student at the Chambre Syndicale De La Couture Paris School and the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, and she has presented a number of fashion shows abroad. Her work always reveals her fondness for peaceful and tranquil South China. She uses traditional textiles such as cotton and silk and natural colours to share her pursuit of an ancient and joyful oriental country. The collection she showed during this Fashion Week was titled Harmonious, and evoked a sense of an ''ink painting,''according to one member of the audience.
