Curtain Falls on Memorable East Asian Games

The closing ceremonies for the nine-day Fourth East Asian Games were held on November 6 in at the East Asian Games Dome Arena in Macao.

It was the biggest sports event ever held in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Macao SAR Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah, declared the Games closed, and the flag and flame were handed over to the president of the Hong Kong National Olympic Committee, Timothy Fok, to be readied for the 2009 edition.

The ceremony highlighted peace and harmony in East Asia, which is what the East Asian Games is all about. Athletes from nine East Asian countries and regions shared 715 gold medals. The slogan of the Macao East Asian Games was "New East, New Era, Let's Join the Games." 

In the lobby of East Asian Games Dome Arena, a nine-day exhibition concerning Beijing and 2008 Summer Olympic Games hosted by the Information Office of Beijing Municipality and BOCOG was held. Many officials, athletes and audiences left messages expressing high hopes for the Beijing Games.
