Belarusian Swans Fly Back2005/12/01
Beijing's ballet enthusiasts know the National Academic Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus very well since the troupe has performed in the capital six times. The troupe will soon return for two performances of their production of Swan Lake on December 4 and 5 at the Beizhan Theatre, the same production they performed during the "Meet in Beijing" Arts Festival in 2004. The National Academic Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus (it was called the State Academic Opera & Ballet Theatre until 1996) was founded in 1933. In its early days, the troupe was fortunate and prestigious enough to win the services of such outstanding professionals and soloists of its age such as A. Nikolajeva and Z. Vasiljeva, which added to its rapid development. Another element that led to its success was its focus on the cultivation of talented children and amateurs from the very beginning of their dance careers. The history of the National Academic Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus has always been associated with famous choreographers, dances and ballets. The modern period of the troupe's activities is characterized by a constant enrichment of its repertoire, based on classical masterpieces, the mastery of modern choreography and its association with the activities of the choreographer and artistic director V. Yelizariev, who led the group in their superb creations in ballet. The troupe won the ballet Benois de la Danse prize for the ballet Passions in 1996. Swan Lake has been the troupe's favoured and most skilled ballet for nearly 70 years. Time: 7:30 p.m., December 4-5 Venue: Beizhan Theatre |
