Text by Winnie Li and Joy Chen Giving has become a passionate part of nearly all the world's mid-winter holiday traditions, such as during Christmas, Hanukkah, Boxing Day or Kwanzaa in the West or during the Spring Festival in China, with its hongbao(red envelopes for children)and the extra attention paid to the elderly and young, not unlike in the West. Various means, such as charity balls held by the more fortunate, are used to raise money to help support charitable activities.
