Pavarotti: Beijing is a Must on My Last Tour

2005/11/02

Seventy-year-old Luciano Pavarotti is engaged in his farewell tour, which began in January and will end in Beijing on December 10. During his stay at the Hilton Hotel, Stuttgart, he told the media about his impression of Beijing.

Pavarotti recalled his first tour to Beijing in 1986. He was warmly welcomed by both the Chinese administration and people.

"I had never imagined that I would receive so much applause from a Chinese audience. It left me such a deep impression that I listed Beijing in my tour and intend to re-experience that applause."

"In 1986, I visited the Central Academy of Music and got an understanding of Chinese music, totally different from that of mine."

He also expressed his good wish for Chinese tenors.

"Tenor Dai Yuqiang once appeared in Bohemian Opera directed by me. He performed well and showed great potential."

More information about Pavarotti's Farewell Tour will be included in Beijing This Month's December issue.
