Xiao Wang’s Has Best Houhai View2005/10/01
Chinese pop diva Faye Wong and actor Li Yapeng held their wedding reception on July 29, Of all the bars and restaurants in the Houhai area, none have a view of the lake to match that of Xiao Wang's. The view at dusk with a setting sun, or the night view of the Houhai is really something. Xiao Wang’s has three venues, with three different flavours. The Shichahai restaurant at 15 Qianhai Beiyan has a private club, a reservations-only restaurant, a public bar and an a la carte dining area. The a la carte area is a glass-walled corridor facing a lotus pond which also serves as a bar and café for afternoon tea. The reserved seating area has even better views of the broad north side of Houhai Lake. The whole restaurant is built as a traditional Chinese garden, with corridors, plants and traditional Chinese architecture. But the two glass halls look like mini crystal palaces, a nice modern touch for a traditional garden. They serve as dining halls, or waiting rooms with an unlimited view of the lake and sky. There is ‘no school' at Xiao Wang’s. The restaurant’s guideline is to “present whatever tastes good,” admits boss Wang Yong. Diners can enjoy all kinds of delicious food from every corner of China. Fish-flavoured pork shred (yu xiang rou si), for example, is a common What’s more, no MSG is used in the food, nor other additives. Fish and chicken bones are removed before serving. In September 2003, Xiao Wang’s Restaurant became the first private restaurant in China to win the Five Stars Diamond Award presented by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences.
