Venice Film Festival Favours Chinese Female Directors

2005/09/01

Two edgy Chinese female directors' films Wuqiong dong and Hongyan have been selected for the Horizons session of the upcoming Venice Film Festival.

The two films depict Chinese women's perplexed state of mind and moral attitudes. The Horizons section is focusing on the new trends in cinema around the world.

Hong Kong director Stanley Kwan's Everlasting Regret is the only Chinese film entered in Competition session. While, Tsui Hark's Seven Swords and Chen Kexin's musical Perhaps Love will be the opening and closing films of the festival.

This year's Venice Film Festival runs from August 31 to September 10 and includes four main sections: In Competition, Out of Competition, Horizons, and Corto Cortissimo.
