Sino-Italian Cultural Exchange Breeds New Form

2005/07/01

Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, the official body for the worldwide promotion of Italy’s most famous wine, announced on June 2 the establishment of an annual international photo competition aimed at promoting cultural links between China and Tuscany.

Some of China’s most highly regarded photographers will be invited to Tuscany later this year. During their stay, they will focus on the region’s landscape and its people. Their best work will be exhibited in Beijing at the Beijing Art Gallery of Imperial City from October 21 to 28, 2005. A panel of distinguished Chinese and Italian personalities will select their favourite picture and award a grand prize to the winning photographer on opening night. The exhibition will then travel to a private cultural foundation in Tuscany for a one-month show.

The selected photographers are Li Yuxing, Sun Zhantao, Yang Dazhou and Zhao Tongjie. Although these artists were born in a number of different Chinese provinces, they all share the same eagerness to explore new aesthetic boundaries. All have held successful exhibitions in China and published outstanding photographic albums.

Commenting on the Chianti Classico International Photo Competition, Vittorio Pozzesi, president of Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, said, “The establishment of this international photo competition is a first for Tuscany. We believe that this cultural event signifies the start of a fruitful long-term relationship between the region of Tuscany and China. We anticipate the blossoming of many more cultural links in the future.”
