Thousands of 'Electronic Eyes' Help Safeguard City
2005/05/01
Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau says that more than
5,000 "electronic eye" inspection devices have been installed
all over the city to strengthen security.
Currently, more than 440,000 people in Beijing are employed
in the city's security network. Meanwhile, Beijing Municipal
Government has introduced a contest among communities called
"the number of consecutive non-crime days" since 2002 to create
a community-based anti-crime network.
Some 1,947 of 2,135 communities have achieved the standard
of "safe community", while 144 of them have maintained a "zero
crime" record for the past three years. The anti-crime network
is mainly composed of community police, members of local
residential associations and technology facilities like
"electronic eyes".
