Editor's note

2005/05/01

We in Beijing need no reminding of how lucky we are in having so many choices of beautiful places to visit during public holidays like this month's Labour Day "golden" week, as well as during weekends and at other times. We really are spoiled for choice, for few other major cities around the globe can offer such a comprehensive range of cultural, historic, artistic and environmental heritages - attractions both in the capital or within fairly easy reach.

City dwellers who have opted to avoid overseas and domestic travel will still find plenty to entertain them closer to home, notably the annual ever-improving "Meet in Beijing" Arts Festival. As in previous years, it offers everything from foreign ballet performances to international orchestras, minority nationality entertainments to stage dramas and exhibitions of one kind or another. Full details are given on other pages.

Whatever your activities, have a happy holiday and, between times, enjoy some great articles in this issue of BTM.
