BBC Holds China Week
2005/03/30
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) recently
dedicated a whole week on China on its TV, radio network and
website. The project, China Week, covered China's rapid
changes in many areas, and talked about the nation's influence
on its own people and the rest of the world.
It's the first time the BBC has aired a country profile of
this nature, focusing on a single nation. During China
Week, dozens of reporters from the BBC did live reports and
feature programmes from different cities around the
country.
The BBC had been preparing this project for a long time and
had the full support of its top management, said Li Wen, head
of the BBC World Service's Chinese Business Development. He
explained: "I remember when we first thought about making a
feature about China It was in April last year. Initially it was
just a rough outline, but it soon caught the interest of many
colleagues. BBC's management was fully supportive of our move
from the very beginning." China Week attracted
wide coverage in the British media generally.
