210,000 Ideas for Beijing Olympic Slogan

2005/03/01

A call for public suggestions for a slogan for the Beijing 2008 Olympics had drawn 210,000 entries from around the world by the Jan. 31 deadline, officials said.

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics (BOCOG) said in a press release that they will wade through the entries and try to pick a winning slogan in a few months.

Most of the entries are in Chinese, but some rest are in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Entries are to be judged on how well they reflect Beijing's notion of "Green Olympics", "High-tech Olympics" and "Human's Olympics".

Along with a slogan, BOCOG is evaluating public suggestions for a mascot and a theme song for the 2008 Games.

"New Beijing, Great Olympics" was the slogan Beijing used during its bid process. The Chinese capital city hopes a new slogan will help promote the 2008 Games.
