CNN Bureau Chief, Jaime FlorCruz, Named Chief Representative of FORTUNE Global Forum in Beijing

CNN bureau chief Jaime FlorCruz has been appointed as the chief representative of the FORTUNE Global Forum in Beijing, according to an announcement from FORTUNE magazine.

FlorCruz will lead a recently opened representative office in Beijing responsible for hosting the forum, which is scheduled for May 16-18, 2005, in Beijing.

Norman Pearlstine, the editor-in-chief of Time Incorporated, said, “Given the overwhelming response from the highest levels of the Chinese Government, we need a person with deep understanding of how China works, and there is no one better than Jaime for this role.”

President Hu Jintao has confirmed he will deliver the keynote address at the forum, where more than 300 chief executive officers and dignitaries from around the world are expected to gather. Among those expected to attend are:  Edward Breen, CEO, Tyco International (USA); Louis Camilleri, CEO, Altria Group (USA); Michael Eisner, CEO, Walt Disney Company. (USA); Ann M. Fudge, CEO, Young & Rubicam (USA); Victor Fung, group chairman, Li & Fung (Hong Kong); Anne Lauvergeon, executive chairman, Areva (France); Vincent Hong Sui Lo, CEO, Shui On Group (Hong Kong); Helmut Panke, chairman of the Board of Management, BMW (Germany); Richard Parsons, CEO, TimeWarner (USA); Henry Paulson, CEO, Goldman Sachs (USA); Charles Prince, CEO, Citigroup (USA); Martin Sorrell, group CEO, WPP (UK); James S. Turley, CEO, Ernst & Young (USA); Rick Wagoner, CEO, General Motors (USA); Meg Whitman, CEO, eBay (USA); Xie Qihua, chairman and president, Shanghai Baosteel (China); Edward Zander, Chairman, CEO, Motorola (USA); Ermenegildo Zegna, global head, Ermenegildo Zegna (Italy). The Forum is also supported by the State Council Information Office and the Beijing Municipal Government.

The forum will explore life in “China and the New Asian Century,” with a focus on understanding the fundamental changes being driven by governments, consumers and corporations in the region. The programme will explore the improving quality of life in China and Southeast Asia and opportunities resulting from this available to multinational corporations.

The 2005 Forum will be held at various venues including the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, the Great Hall of the People and the Rostrum at Tiananmen Gate. It will be the ninth FORTUNE Global Forum, and the third held in China. Inaugurated in 1995, previous forums have been held in Singapore, Barcelona, Bangkok, Budapest, Shanghai, Paris, Hong Kong and in Washington, D.C.
