2005 Beijing New Year Concert

Each year on the night of December 31, a world-class concert called the Beijing New Year Concert is held in the Great Hall of the People and becomes a centre of attention in the capital and nationwide. This year's performers include world-famous tenor Jose Carreras of Spain, regarded as one of the world's top three tenors, along with Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo; soprano Victoria Loukianetz, violinist Vadim Repin from Russia, conductors Frantz Justus, Gimenes and Tan Lihua. In addition, 130 musicians from the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, 60 from the China Symphony Orchestra and 40 from the Beijing Festival Choir Orchestra will join in the concert. The event is sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the Beijing Municipal Government, and is being organized by the Beijing GHTY Culture & Art Corporation, and is expected to be a feast for both foreigners and Chinese people.
